Talents[]
When you hire a new brother, he will randomly have a series of stars next to three of his Attributes:
- 60% chance
- 30% chance
- 10% chance
These denote the brother's talents. Talents allow a character to progress better than others in a certain stat. These talents are completely randomly assigned, without any connection to a background or trait. Very few exceptions apply though: some backgrounds are excluded from certain talents.
A talent increases the additional attribute points available upon level-up. 1 star increases the minimum by 1, 2 stars by 2 and 3 stars also increase the maximum by one.[1]
Tips[]
- Another way to think about talents is: For stats you will always level up (Ranged Skill on archers for example), each star will add 5 points by level 11 on average. Therefore, a Hunter that starts at 55 Ranged Skill and no stars is equivalent to a Poacher that starts at 50 Ranged Skill with one star.
- This applies to all stats; a Militia starting with 7 Melee Defense is equivalent to a Farmer starting at 2 Melee Defense with one star (as far as Melee Defense is concerned).
- Thinking about it this way should make the importance of a character's starting stats more obvious to the player; if a character rolls a low starting stat, it's easy to compare it to losing a star!
- In the Northern Raiders origin, the starting Monk that the player gets is unique. He is guaranteed to have 3 stars in Resolve, and no stars in any other stat. This is the only character in the game that does not have stars in 3 stats.
